Answers to questions about sedation dentistry
| |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Will I feel any pain? |
No. You will feel nothing! |
Will I be unconscious? |
No, you will be in a deeply relaxed state, and you will be responsive. |
Will I have to have an IV placed? Why? |
You don’t absolutely have to have an IV. We can
utilize oral sedatives only if you desire. However, the IV route has
some important advantages – the HUGE advantage is if you are not as
sedated as Dr. Simpson wants you to be (for comfort) more medication
may be slowly added and the effects are immediate. With the pill
only, your comfort level is much harder to control. |
What types of anesthesia do you offer? |
Oral Sedation (pill) Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas) IV Sedation General Anesthesia (provided by a Licensed Dentist
Anesthesiologist) |
Will I be monitored? |
Yes, one of our team is always with you and your vital signs are
monitored during the entire visit. You are never alone. Depending
on the depth of the sedation and anesthetic being used, as well as
your own medical condition, various monitors are used. These vary
from automatic blood pressure cuffs, to the use of pulse oximeters
which through a light sensor measure the oxygen concentration in
your blood. Sometimes an EKG may be used as well.

How long will I be relaxing? |
Depending on your needs, from two to six hours. |
Will someone need to accompany me? |
| Yes, due to the sedative effects of the medication, you will need someone to drive you to our office and home again. |
